Birthing A Movement exhibit at the 2022 Three Rivers Arts Festival

You are invited to join us at this year's Birthing A Movement event uplifting and celebrating the maternal health workforce at the 2022 Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival. In partnership with Anthropology of Motherhood (AoM), WHAMglobal will host Birthing A Movement at AoM's Culture of Care Exhibit from June 3-12 at 100 7th Street, Pittsburgh, PA.

Together with this year's exhibiting AoM artists, Birthing A Movement will feature artist Lena Chen and her project Full Circle. Full Circle is a participatory art project that engages communities of birth workers in sharing stories about their labor experiences. Full Circle will be in progress with WHAMglobal staff, community partners, and birth workers on June 3rd, 4th, and 5th and with AoM volunteers from June 6-12. We invite you to participate by contributing to a communal wreath while sharing your stories.

The Anthropology of Motherhood's "Culture of Care Exhibit," featuring works of art that engage in the complex visual, material, emotional, corporeal, and lived experiences of motherhood, caregiving, parenting, nurturing, and maternal labor. While this project was originally conceptualized as an aesthetic experience for nursing mothers functioning also as a space for respite and community, it has grown into a broader exploration of the Culture of Care. Founded by Fran Ledonio Flaherty in 2015, AoM continues to radicalize aesthetics and content through by elevating the acts of caregiving into fine art.

This event is part of the Pittsburgh: A Safer Childbirth City initiative.
